Weather Alert – U. S. Embassy Seoul
Location: Republic of Korea, possible heavy rains country-wide
The Embassy is closely monitoring the projected path of Typhoon Khanun, which is forecast to reach the southeastern coast of the Korean peninsula on Wednesday, August 9.
Expect powerful wind gusts, high waves in coastal areas, mudslides, and flooding in low-lying areas. Heavy rains are expected to begin on the evening of Wednesday, August 9 for the areas including Busan, Ulsan, and South Geyongsang province, then continuing to Daegu, North Gyeongsang and North Chungcheong provinces by Thursday morning. Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Gangwon areas could be affected by Thursday evening.
ACTIONS TO TAKE:
U.S. citizens in Korea are encouraged to monitor local news media and follow guidance of government officials and local authorities. Updates from the Korean Meteorological Administration and the U.S. Navy Joint Typhoon Warning Center can be found online. Stay away from flooded areas and secure outdoor belongings that may be affected by winds or flood. Lastly, ensure your information is up to date with STEP and advise any U.S. Citizens that DID NOT receive this message to do the same.
