Apply for or renew a U.S. Passport

We are accepting DS-82 U.S. Passport Renewal Applications and DS-5504 applications via courier service ONLY. (The DS-5504 is used to make a correction, register a name change within one year of passport issuance, or exchange a limited passport.)

Visit Forms to find the form you need and begin the process of completing and submitting your passport application. If you are unsure which form you need, the Passport Wizard can guide you to the correct form.

Passport Application Requirements

  • Current processing time for passports is 6-8 weeks.
  • DS-82 Passport Renewal Applications and DS-5504 applications are accepted ONLY by courier service.
  • You may renew your passport before it expires. If you have upcoming travel, please plan ahead.
  • Many countries require that your passport be valid at least six (6) months beyond the dates of your trip, and airlines may deny your boarding. Check travel.state.gov for entry requirements before you travel.
  • All U.S. citizens applying for a passport will be required to include their Social Security number on their application form.
  • All forms of digital manipulation and/or retouching of photographs are not acceptable. Glasses and face coverings such as bandages and masks that block any portion of the face are not acceptable. New passport applications submitted with photos that do not meet the requirements will be rejected and returned to the applicant. Please see the travel.state.gov passport photo webpage for more information. (U.S. passport and Korean passport photo sizes are different.)
  • Please be sure to bring an informal (certified not required) translation of all Korean documents submitted.
  • Applicants visiting the Embassy will be allowed to check in only one cell phone and one set of electronic car keys before entering the building. No other devices will be permitted, and the Embassy has no capacity to store them.  Please leave these items at home or make arrangements for their storage before arriving for your appointment.
  • Unclaimed passports will be destroyed after 90 days.
