Register for the Foreign Service Officer Test (FSOT)
U.S. Citizens who are interested in taking the Foreign Service Officer Test should visit www.pearsonvue.com/fsot to get information on the exam and register for the test. The website also has information on many different career opportunities with the Department of State.
Please be advised that the registration process for the Foreign Service Officer Test has changed. Applicants will start by filling out a registration package that consists of an application form and a set of personal narrative questions that, taken together, provide information about your experience and qualifications. Applicants will need approximately three hours to complete the registration package.
The Board of Examiners (BEX) announces that Pearson VUE will administer October 2019 Foreign Service Officer Test from Saturday, September 28, 2019 to Saturday, October 5, 2019.
The seat selection portal will open on Thursday, August 22, 2019 for four weeks until Wednesday, September 25, 2019 for candidates to schedule seats for October testing window.
The updated list of embassies/consulates offering October 2019 FSOT will be available at www.careers.state.gov.
The FSOT is offered at both domestic and overseas locations in February, June, and October each year.
NOTE: In the past, some candidates have waited until the last minute and either missed deadlines or found that desired testing locations were full. Candidates who are unable to test in this window, but have active applications will automatically be invited to the next testing window.
Department of Washington recently changed the vendor to PEARSON VUE to provide more appointment slots over the entire period of the testing window. If you experience difficulty finding seats, please directly contact to FSOTQuestions@state.gov.
