On November 5, Consul David J. Jea and U.S. Embassy Energy Attaché Kerry Cheung visited Pohang Iron and Steel Company (POSCO), Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), and advanced research institutions based in Pohang, including the National Institute of Nanomaterials Technology (NINT), Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (PAL), and Research Institute of Industrial Science and Technology (RIST). POSCO showed off its cutting-edge new steel production process and previewed it roadmap to zero emission coal production by 2030. POSTECH Executive Vice President Kim Kwang-jae welcomed the delegation to the university and explained its energy R&D projects. The varied research institutions in Pohang embodied how the ROK became a technical leader through investment in science and engineering training and world-class lab tools.
