Alert – U.S. Embassy Seoul, South Korea (2023-05-31)
This morning at 06:41am, the Seoul City Government sent a Critical Emergency Alert to mobile phones in error. The Ministry of Interior sent a follow-up message at 7:03am clarifying that the Seoul City Government’s message was sent in error.
The Department’s travel advisory for South Korea remains at level 1, which is the lowest of the 4 levels. For more information on travel advisories, please visit travel.state.gov.
In the event of a true emergency, the U.S. Embassy Seoul will communicate with U.S. Citizens in Korea via the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). If you are receiving this message, you are currently enrolled in STEP.
Actions to Take:
- Ensure your information is updated with STEP at https://step.state.gov
- If you know of any U.S. Citizens that DID NOT receive this message, please advise them to enroll in STEP.
