The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea and the U.S. Department of State will co-host a Symposium on Countering DPRK Cyber-Exploitation of Cryptocurrency Exchanges in Seoul on November 17, 2022 as part of ongoing efforts to curb the DPRK’s illegal cyber activities.
Government officials and private sector experts from cryptocurrency exchanges and blockchain companies, representing more than a dozen countries, are expected to attend this symposium.
At the symposium, participants will share information on typologies of and regulatory responses to DPRK cryptocurrency heists and will discuss effective approaches to counter and respond to heists, including public-private partnerships and international coordination.
This symposium will provide a valuable opportunity for the participating governments to share best practices in protecting cryptocurrency exchanges, financial institutions, and blockchain companies from DPRK heists; cutting off revenue streams for the DPRK’s unlawful weapons of mass destruction and missile development through malicious cyber activities; and establishing a network of cooperation with government officials and private sector experts from key partner countries.
