My name is Chris Del Corso and as the Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Mission to the Republic of Korea, I would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to President-Elect Yoon Suk-yeol on behalf of our Mission team.
This hard-fought election was a testament to the dynamism and resiliency of Korea’s democracy. I know supporters of all the candidates were motivated by a desire for a more just, prosperous, and equitable Korea.
As we prepare to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the U.S.-Korea bilateral relationship, the bond between our two countries is stronger than ever.
For decades we’ve crafted one of the most steadfast, resilient, and robust alliances in the world, using it as the rock-solid foundation on which to build a vast network of economic and social ties, helping to make the Republic of Korea the thriving democracy it is today.
Together, we are adapting to new challenges and threats to ensure future generations of both Koreans and Americans enjoy the same opportunities we do.
We look forward to working with the new administration to continue to expand the broader U.S.-ROK strategic alliance, while employing it as a force for good across the globe to improve the lives of others and share the security, prosperity, and freedom we enjoy.
As demonstrated by the active civic engagement of its people and consistently free and fair elections – even in the face of the current pandemic surge – the Republic of Korea is truly a role-model for the democratic process. And for that, we congratulate the Korean people.
